Here is some exciting news...... we just recently bought Jessica Ione, known locally as 'Jess', in partnership with Morfresh Cymru. She is one of the commercial fishing boats here in New Quay and we are excited to now be able to sell live shellfish fresh from the boat. So why not consider a live crab or lobster for your tea whilst you are staying here? What could be more Epic? A fishing trip and fresh shellfish for dinner!

At the moment we are running our family fun 2 hour deep sea fishing trips on a daily basis. We catch all sorts of fish on these trips and one of the main 'take-home' fish is the whiting, as seen in this photo. Who doesn't like some freshly caught fish, pan fried in butter with a squeeze of lemon? Yummy! These exciting trips are suitable for all ages and great fun for the whole family. And don't worry, we do all the messy bits for you. You just haul the fish in! Come and give it a try and create some great holiday memories....

Its Easter Hols - hurray holiday's here. And what better way of having some family fun time together than on an Epic fishing trip with our team aboard our wonderful boat 'Legend of New Quay'. There is a huge bonus to doing so as our resident population of Bottlenose Dolphins - did you know that they grow to over 4.5 metres in length; that's bigger than the average family car! - are back in New Quay Bay. We see them almost every day whilst on our Epic fishing trips. Now how is that for a perfect family trip out? Fish for tea and Dolphins to see! Don't just take our word for it but look at our recent reviews at https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g1093682-d4012180-Reviews-Epic_Fishing_Trips-New_Quay_Ceredigion_Wales.html

The last time we saw this species of fish was four years ago. They have been absent from the bay since then until suddenly, this year, they are back. It is a very welcome surprise as these are stunning fish. Truth be told they are not fish at all but one of Great Britain's many shark species. The Spurdog is an anglers favourite as it swims strongly and is a rare catch. Bare in mind too that at 15lbs in weight this particular fish is only 2lbs off the British shore caught record. Simply Epic! If they are true to form they will stay around these waters until the end of April whereupon they will vanish as quickly as they arrived. So now is your chance and they should be here for Easter. Shark on!

Hoping to start the next Epic fishing trip season next week. If the weather forecast is true to its word then we will move the wonderful Legend of New Quay back from Aberystwyth to home here in New Quay. Its an exciting time right now. Having done all the prep; like making sure the rods and reels are refreshed and where necessary, replaced and ordering loads of top quality bait ready to use. This is Huss Shark time and the lad in this picture had a great catch with this whopper shark. He was brave too, holding onto the tail like that. Mind you Skipper Tim was just out of shot ready to pounce should the shark decide that it fancied a mouthful of small child! If you fancy giving your family the chance of an extraordinary adventure then please get in touch. Whatsapp us now on 07989 496 526.

The rock group Europe coined the lyric 'It's the final countdown.....'. I'm humming it as I type and I'm showing my age! The reason these words are in my head is the absolute fact that in fishing terms we are on the final countdown to the start of season 2019. We are ready, 'Legend of New Quay' is ready, her fishing equipment is ready and the freezer is full of quality blast frozen bait. In short it is time to go sea fishing. Right now we are aiming at a mid March start. This is always a flexible date as the weather can intervene but that's the target at the moment. So if you fancy Pan Fried spring Whiting, served with Jersey New Potatoes, butter and a squeeze of lemon juice then its time to drop me an email to tim@epicfishingtrips.co.uk and book a trip. For it will be Whiting time when we get going and I for one, can't wait!

One of the many wonderful things about running fishing trips out of New Quay, Cardigan Bay is that you never know what is going to come up. It often seems that everyday is filled with surprises. The look of awe on this lads face as he comes 'nose to nose' with a Scorpion Fish says it all. These aggressive little bottom feeders are to be found in amongst rocks and weed, exactly the kind of habitat that many of the other fish species we hunt frequent. So its always good news when we see one; not only to you get to meet one of the biggest fishy attitudes that swim these waters (we adore these lovely ugly fish) but we know that we are fishing in exactly the right place. That means that any moment a rock cod or a big pollack is going to bite! Quickly drop your bait to the bottom again.....

Here on the west coast of Wales the fishing is very seasonal and consequently it changes throughout the year. One of our favourite times of year is early season through late March and early April. Its the Easter time fishery and it is when the dog sharks (proper name lesser spotted dogfish) patrol the deeper reefs hunting crustaceans. We target them using strips of squid. Its a meal they seem unable to resist and when they are really in the mood some huge catches can occur. Good news for father and son teams as in this picture. Dog sharks can be a reliable catch and a reliable catch is all an 8 year old needs!

The Government have recently announced the Bass catch and release measures for this year 2019. And its good news for lovers of sea food as for the first time in 3 years you will be able to take a bass home for dinner (minimum size limits applies). To be specific between 1st April 2019 and 31st October 2019 customers of ours will be able to keep one sea bass each day. Epic news! Not only do we get to take home some of the freshest and nicest tasting seafood in the world but we can do so safe in the knowledge that we are fishing a sustainable population of fish. We are the only professional fishing trip company offering a very real chance of catching a beautiful sea bass here on the west coast of Wales. Why not come and have a go?

Oddly some people like to kiss their catch. No issue here, its up to you. However Luke risked 'life and limb' to cuddle this monster shark. Tope shark season here in Cardigan Bay is always the best time for an Epic Fishing Trip. Generally it coincides with the nicest weather of the summer and pretty much can be nailed down to May and June. So if you fancy kissing (or at least cuddling) a shark this coming summer then we would recommend that you get your trip booked soon, as the best tides and dates are filling. Yup its a true fact that many visiting teams of shark hunters book year on year and well in advance. After all we have only got one 'Legend of New Quay'.

It's the first day of 2019. Happy New Year! These Epic folk braved 7 degree C water this morning for the annual New Year's Day swim in New Quay Harbour. The team at Epic Fishing Trips were there to cheer a large group of hard core swimmers into and quickly out of the sea. The water is at its coldest now but the good news is that it will warm slowly through spring and into summer to a maximum of around 18 degrees. This all bodes well for lots of fishy fun on our Epic Fishing Trips this year. Season 2019 will start with our first trips on or around mid March departing from the big pier in New Quay Wales. We hope to see you there!

At this time of year we look forward to hearing from old friends and previous customers who fish with us every year. As is always the case next summer is getting booked up as those in the know bag the best tides and dates. SO now is the time for you to consider getting your fishing charter booked up. We are really pleased to help advise on tides and timings in so far as time of year then May, June and early July generally produce the best weather and some exciting fishing. Around then the tope run big and strong as they hunt mackerel and sea bream. What better way to spend a day than catching bream for the bbq and sharks for the thrill!

Just recently a surprising number of octopus have been found on local beaches. This sits alongside the fact that last summer we caught loads of them. Are we being invaded? One thing is for sure there is more around and they are always a welcome catch. Unlike the Continentals we put them back, they are such amazing creatures and releasing them seems the best way. So will next summer prove the same when it comes to octopus catching? There is only one way to find out – come and have a go!

Everybody loves to catch tope. These stunning migratory sharks put up a huge fight and make an impressive catch. Unfortunately the season to catch them here is all too short and really revolves around June. Consequently we get very booked up for shark fishing trips and it is worth pointing out that should you wish to take on one of the UK’s most exciting fishes then it’s time to get a date in our diary. Drop me an email to tim@epicfishingtrips.co.uk

The bay was alive with dolphins last week. It is always great to see them – as we do on most of our fishing trips – but they are also a wonderful indicator species. What do we mean by that? Well, if they are here then there must be fish here too. In high summer they can give away the presence of mackerel and it is common for us to drive towards them to try and catch fish. No mackerel at the moment but imagine all those cod that they are munching on now. Shall we go cod fishing?
