As of the first of April 2023 we will be running our fab 2hr deep sea fishing trips. One of our fav trips these as one never knows what is going to come up. As in the case of this Scorpion Fish. A cheery little fellow, never getting much bigger than this one pictured but boy does he know how to make is presence felt. They get all puffed up and angry and we love 'em for it. So if you fancy the chance of getting up close and personal with a fish with attitude, then come on an epic deep see fishing trips. These run from 1st April right through to end May.

Our booking diary is filling up rapidly for our famous Tope shark trips. We would love to claim that there is so many customers wanting to book that we are simply overrun but the truth is that's not the case. Odd thing to say? The issue is that the Tope season here on the west coast of Wales is a notoriously short one and is condensed into six prime weeks. Late May, through June and into early July. And with limited time availability we inevitably get heavily booked up. So I guess in a way we are overrun with Tope customers after all. Having said that some dates do currently remain free in the diary so please do get in touch soon if its a Tope shark that you are after.

Its 2023! And you know what that means? The new fishing season will not be long in arriving. We love this time of year; a fresh new feel of excitement builds as we anticipate all the great fishing trips to come. Season 2023 will start close to 1st April and possibly in late March if the weather is fair. As always we will start the year bait fishing for the myriad of fish species that inhabit our waters. Fish or should we more properly say; shark, like big bull Huss are a common catch. And they make an impressive catch! Trips are already available online, simply hit our book now button.

Who would have thought that bluefin tuna swim in our waters? In actual fact they always have; once upon a time there was a commercial tuna fishery (known locally as tunny) up and down the coast of the UK, with it's heart in the north east. So tuna have migrated around our coast line forever but this year for the first time in many years it is now legal to fish for them on a catch and release basis. Epic Fishing Trips were delighted to be one of only five boats to be granted this permission in Welsh waters. Well, that's Epic!

Whilst the fishing season is far from over - we will continue running our fab fishing trips well into October; we thought it opportune to have a quick review of the summer so far. And what a beauty its been! Great weather, great fishing and most wonderful of all, great customers. Its been an absolute pleasure welcoming both returning and new customers aboard Legend of New Quay throughout this warm and dry summer. Dad's and Grandad's welcome! A bit of fishing experience never goes amiss and this Gent certainly knew his stuff. But you do not need to have any experience to get huge fun out of joining one of our trips. Skipper Tim always gives a simple and fun fishing demo at the start of every trip and we make sure that our quality fishing equipment is very easy to use. Crew Corrine runs around helping and showing everyone how to 'play the game' all trip long. You really do get looked after on one of our fishing trips. That's why we are EPIC!

Just look at these two! Aren't they just having the time of their lives? The perfect mackerel fishing tag team = chaos in the best possible way. These guys had a wonderful trip, catching fish after fish and that is exactly what mackerel fishing does; it brings the opportunity to catch lots and lots of fish. Warning! Family memories for life made here. We remember going on fishing trips when we were little (and that is way tooooo long ago now :) We truly believe that a mackerel fishing trip is one of the few things in life that is clearly remembered from childhood. This boils down to the thrill of catching your own treasure; and we do not use the word treasure lightly, for that is exactly what freshly caught mackerel are; the stuff of legends. Iridescent colours, glinting in the sun, to be hunted and gathered. No wonder we named Epic's boat 'Legend of New Quay'. She make's legendary treasure hunts a family thing of joy. Ready and waiting. This is a picture of the stern rod holders on Legend of New Quay with New Quay looking as resplendent as always in the background. Beautiful boat moored in a beautiful village. Hmm it makes one feel all chocolate boxy and warm around the edges.
We have moved into the summer fishery now with mackerel being very much on the fishing menu. Customers love catching mackerel, they are such pretty fish and what wonderful eating. They are by no means the only fish we catch at this time of year, with plenty of other species coming aboard. From bass to pollack and herring to cod, we see them all on a summer time Epic fishing trip.

Not every fish we catch is a record breaker. But the fun that can be had from catching any fish, no matter how big or small :) is an epic thing; family fun at its very best.
It is the Jubilee week soon and we can not wait. We join with the rest of the UK in expressing many epic congratulations to Her Majesty. She is a great lover of the outdoor life and there are many pictures of her enjoying recreation at sea and in the countryside. Indeed she used to go fishing with His Royal Highness the late Prince Philip. What better recommendation can there be, than to join us on an Epic Fishing Trip!

It is May and the weather is improving markedly. It is a little known fact that summer here tends to be late May through June and into early July. Good weather usually brings calm seas and with calm seas the Mackerel arrive. It is too early yet to fish for them, so we are continuing to run our family friendly deep sea fishing trips! We catch all sorts of species with the bait we use from whiting (great eating!) to spider crabs and octopus to sharks! We are deep sea fishing right now. And that means 'you never know what's going to come up'! This is a Scorpion Fish. He's a grumpy fellow (the fish, not the Skipper) harmless but full of posturing self defence. It is a great, super fun catch. This fish has added to the mixed bag of species that we have been catching recently, with Octopus being the most unusual. They too are wonderful to see and many a customer has been thrilled to come face to face with one of the most intelligent creatures of the sea.
You will be pleased to learn that we have kept our trip pricing at the same price as last year. And we have also continued not to charge a commission fee on our tickets (unlike all of the Dolphin trip boats here in New Quay). That represents a great value holiday experience that not only offers the opportunity of catching something amazing but also, seeing the Dolphins. There is no better.

We can not believe how much fishing fun is going on at the moment! At the moment the tides are in a spring tidal sequence and the loading pier dries at low water, preventing boat access. The consequence of that is that there are limited trips right now. Roooooooomy. No not rooooney (as the football chant used to go) but roomy. How else could you describe the acres of deck space on our wonderful boat Legend of New Quay. One thing is for sure, you will not feel crowded aboard our boat. It is made for fishing and it is made for families to have their own space to enjoy fishing. That's the way we do things here at Epic, we put you guys first. So if you haven't tried a fishing trip yet then there can be no excuses. Big rooooomy boat, spotlessly clean and with seating for all. Make sure you bring the whole family. There is always plenty of things to see, including bottlenose dolphins and experience has shown that once on the trip, everyone joins in and has a ball.

Mum's and son's, father's and daughters, friends and family all are welcome on an Epic Fishing Trip. Love catching these fish. This is a Thornback Ray or as we like to fondly name them - a thorny. Aptly named as they do have the most severe thorns across the whole of their backs. You can tell that I am nervous of getting a thorn in my winger by the way I am holding it :) But they are an ace, fun fish to catch and the good news is, we catch plenty. Now is the time as we will start the season running bait fishing trips and thorny's love a bit of bait. We nearly always use squid as our bait of choice (don't worry as we do all the messy bits for you). And a thornback loves nothing more than a bit of squid. For the cooks amongst you these fish are fileted into skate wings. Serve with capers and black butter for a Rick Stein seafood feed. Yum.

One of the most wonderful and unexpected outcomes from running our famous 1.5hr fishing trips is just how many girls and ladies jump aboard to join in the fun fishing. On the boat, we keep everything spotlessly clean and anyone who gets aboard Legend of New Quay will be impressed by her cleanliness and tidiness. What type of fishing do we prefer? Well, we specialise in delivering modern, clean, family fun fishing trips all season long but some trips can be more fun than others. In early season around April and May we really enjoy taking families to go deep sea fishing. It is the mystery of what might come up that is so engaging. For this team it was a brace of Cat Sharks. These true sharks are more commonly known as Dog Fish, but we all know they are and always will be, sharks! Grrr. How many kids can go back to school after the Easter holidays and boast to their friends that they caught a shark! Luv it when a fish of a lifetime turns up; as it did for Tim last September. It made his fishing year and pretty much made ours too!
